ORTLIEB-Warranty

The ORTLIEB warranty, limited to five years, is a voluntary warranty provided by the manufacturer. It grants additional rights independent of the rights granted by consumer protection laws. Should a product be replaced within the warranty period, the date of first delivery continues to apply to the five-year warranty period.

This worldwide, free of charge warranty of five years from delivery refers to material defects and processing errors. Scuff marks, holes and cracks caused by the customer's own fault are not covered by the warranty. Claims for defects due to normal wear and tear, improper use, non-observance of the assembly instructions, third-party intervention as well as due to improper storage are excluded. No warranty is given for damage due to improper care and improper use. As a rule, however, such damage can be repaired at cost price.

Consumer Protection Law

Important: The provisions of the ORTLIEB warranty, which is limited to five years, do not apply to claims arising from statutory consumer protection rights. These statutory rights are not limited by the warranty. Thus, the benefits under the five-year limited ORTLIEB warranty are intended to supplement and not replace the rights granted by consumer protection laws.

If a product is defective, consumers may in particular claim the rights under §§ 434 et seq., §§ 474 et seq. of the German BGB (German Civil Code). Consumers can choose whether to claim performance under the ORTLIEB warranty, which is limited to five years, or under their statutory consumer protection rights.

The first point of contact for warranty claims is always the specialist or online dealer with whom the purchase contract for the product was concluded. This warranty is subject to the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Back-Roller XL Plus allows you to carry large items of luggage for long tours or everyday commuting. The XL version of the Back-Roller Plus has a total volume of 70 litres per pair of bags. The bag is made of robust, PVC-free Cordura fabric. The waterproof roll closure reliably protects the contents from moisture and dirt. It can be quickly and precisely mounted on the luggage rack using the Quick-Lock system.

An outer pocket with a volume of four litres per side, which is not waterproof, complements the storage space for items that are needed quickly.
The bags are repairable and manufactured in our factory in Heilsbronn. Waterproofing is standard at ORTLIEB.

The QL mounting systems on ORTLIEB panniers allow fast and secure mounting on racks. They are referred to as self-locking fixing systems, for the panniers provided with this system can be mounted to the racks in an easy and safe manner. In case of damage all components can be replaced easily.

Quick-Lock3.1

The QL3.1 system is especially developed for office and city bags an its secret lies in the fact that the main mounting components stay on the rack. This results in a smooth rear side of the bag that is free of protruding hooks, and significantly improves the bag’s carrying comfort when off the bike.

Quick-Lock2.1

This mounting system for bike panniers is the further development of ORTLIEB’s milestone setting QL1 system. All hooks are adjustable to the rack without requiring any tools. Therefore, the panniers can be easily switched from one bike to another.

How do the different Back-Roller models differ?

All Back-Roller models are waterproof and extremely durable. The main differences are in the material, features, design, and volume. Many models are available individually or as a pair. The product image always shows the correct quantity, and a corresponding note can be found on the product page.

Models with the additions Plus, Plus CR, or Urban are made from a single-sided coated material. It is just as waterproof as the classic tarp material but looks more textile-like and elegant.
The Free models, like the Urban and Plus variants, are completely PVC-free while still retaining the typical feel of the tarp material.
For the Back-Roller Plus and Back-Roller Plus Urban, the “Plus” refers to the additional outer pocket. Both bags have a textile appearance.
The XL models offer 35 liters of storage space per bag and are particularly suitable for long tours or for anyone who likes to carry more luggage.
The Back-Roller Core is the entry-level model. It focuses on the essentials, is waterproof and robust, and does not include a shoulder strap or an inner pocket.

What is the difference between Back-Roller and Sport-Roller?

Both models are waterproof, robust and equipped with the Quick-Lock system.
The Back-Roller is designed for the rear luggage rack and offers plenty of storage space with 20 liters per bag for longer tours or everyday use.
The Sport-Roller is more compact, holds 14.5 liters and is ideal as a front bag on a lowrider or for smaller bicycles.

How is the the Back-Roller XL Plus mounted on the luggage rack?

Does the Back-Roller XL Plus fit my luggage rack?

ORTLIEB bags with the Quick-Lock mounting system are compatible with almost all luggage racks. The Quick-Lock2.1 and Quick-Lock2.2 systems fit racks with tube diameters from 8 mm to 16 mm. Bags with Quick-Lock3.1 require special attachment points on the luggage rack, which can easily be retrofitted using a mounting kit if necessary.
